Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I take more than 1 free 24 hour trial?
A. No, once you have completed your trial period you will have to take out a subscription to the site in order to gain access.

Q. Will the data that I have entered on My Collection over the free 24 hour trial period be retained so that I don't lose it when I take out my paid subscription?
A. Yes, it will be retained.

Q. How long will it take between paying for my subscription online and gaining full access to the site?
A. You will receive immediate access.

Q. Can I access RRPG online from any PC/Mac once I have subscribed?
A. Yes, from any machine with access to the internet.

Q. Can I share my subscription with friends and colleagues?
A. No. Your subscription covers you personally as a single user. Should we detect evidence that the site is being accessed using your password by other users then your account will be frozen and could be terminated.

Q. By what methods can I pay for a subscription? 
A. You can pay online by credit card or Direct Debit. You can also email us your details and we can take payment over the phone or by mail if you would prefer to send a cheque. These options are explained after you have registered and when you click on the Subscribe tab on the navigation menu on the Home page.

Q. What happens if I need to cancel my subscription?
A. Generally a subscription is bought for a year, and once ordered and paid for you will not be able to claim a refund or part refund. If you have paid by Direct Debit then it is your responsibility to inform your bank should you wish to discontinue paying by this method. Only under exceptional circumstances are we able to consider part refunds in which case you should contact us directly and we will do our best to help.

Q. Am I limited to a set amount of searches on the RRPG online database?
A. No. As a paid up subscriber you are allowed an unlimited number of searches.

Q. The artist I searched for is not in your database.
A. RRPG online is not intended to be a complete discography but gives the values for rare and collectable records issued in the UK. The entry price for a 7" single is £5, £8 for an EP, 12" or CD single, £12 for an LP and £18 for a CD album although we do intend to add records with prices below these values. If no artist is displayed after a search is made the artist you are seeking currently does not have any records of that value.

Q. The record I searched for is not in the database. 
A. The Rare Record Price Guide online is not intended to be a complete discography but gives the value for rare and collectable records issued in the UK. The entry price for a 7" single is £5, £8 for an EP, 12" or CD single, £12 for an LP and £18 for a CD album although we do intend to add records with prices below these values. If the record you are searching for is not shown then it is below the entry level or not been entered into the database. The RRPG online only includes rare records that were released in the UK.

Q. Can I search by catalogue record label and catalogue number?
A. Yes. You can enter any information into the general search field. You can enter a catalogue number, a label name like 'Motown' or 'Vertigo' or the name of a single or album like 'Day Tripper' or 'Revolver.'

Q. How do I search for only 7" singles recorded by the Beatles?
A. You can type in 'The Beatles' in the artists name and then select '7 inch/single' in the format box. Only Beatles singles will be displayed in the search results. You can perform similar searches of other formats like EPs, LPs and 12" singles. There are demonstration videos on the Home page which take you through the search process.

Q. Can I run searches for an artist or format for a specific year?
A. Yes. On the search page you need to click onto the decade box which will give you a drop down of decades from the 50s to the 10s. After clicking on one of these decades another box will open to the right called 'Exact Year' allowing you to select the year you want.

Q. I have spotted an error, how do I submit a correction?
A. When records are displayed you are able to click onto the 'More Details' box that allows you to see additional information on that particular record. There is a 'submit content' button on this page which allows you to submit a comment to the Rare Record Price Guide editor. You can type whatever message you want to correct a mistake, provide additional information or give your opinion on the price of this record.

Q. How do I send you a picture of a record?
A. When records are displayed you are able to click onto the 'More Details' box that allows you to see additional information on that particular record. There is a 'submit content' button on this page which allows you to submit a comment to the Rare Record Price Guide editor and also upload images.

Q. How do I add a record to My Collection?
A. When you perform a search for either an artist, label or specific search string the results are displayed in a list. There is a button 'Add To My Collection'. When you click on this button this record is added to your collection. There is a button on the home page labelled 'My Collection'. When you click on this button all the records in your collection are displayed along with a total of their value.

Q. How many records can I add to My Collection?
A. You can add as many records as you like to My Collection. There is no limit.

Q. Can I add records that are not in the database into My Collection?
A. Yes. My Collection allows you to create your own record entries as long as the artist name is in our database. This means you can create records released in the UK that are not in the database or records pressed in any other country in the world. You can also add a price to this record, upload an image and add it to your collection.

Q. Can I change the default price from Mint?
A. You cannot change the default price in the general search facility but you can grade records in My Collection as Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Fair, Poor or Bad and the price for that record will be automatically adjusted.

Q. Can I change the currency on my search and in my collection?
A. The default currency for the Rare Record Price Guide is £ sterling. You can change the default to Euro, American Dollars or the Japanese Yen. The site works out the current rate of exchange and gives you a price for that record in Mint condition. In the My Collection section the price will also be adjusted for different conditions.

Q. Can I use the RRPG online with my mobile phone or Blackberry?
A. Yes, but your experience will vary depending on the type of device used.

Q. Can I access my RRPG online account anywhere in the world?
A. Yes. If you have an account you are able to log on to RRPG online anywhere in the world.

Q. How often are prices in the RRPG online updated?
A. The prices in the RRPG online database are updated on a regular basis. There will be updates and new entries made every day.

Q. How do I sell my records?
A. If you would like to advertise on the site, in The RRPG book, or in Record Collector magazine, please email subscriptions@metropolis.co.uk.

Q. Which browsers support the RRPG website?
A. The site has been tested to work with Internet explorer 7 & 8, FireFox 2.0 and onward, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera. This site is NOT supported by Internet Explorer 6.

Q. What size screen resolution should I use?
A. Although the site will still run at lower resolutions it’s advised to use a minimum of 1024 x 768 pixels. Otherwise the usability of the site may be affected.

Q. When searching for rare records why can't I see any results?
A. The search results are displayed using Adobe Flash Player. Please ensure you have this installed and are running version 8 or over. You can download this from  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
